Jhesus Aponte is an internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer, and educator, celebrated for his versatility, artistry, and lifelong dedication to dance. A two-time World Salsa Champion, Aponte has established himself as a bona fide talent in the salsa world while excelling across diverse styles including jazz, ballet, musical theater, hip hop, flamenco and rumba.
Born and raised in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Jhesus grew up in a family of musicians, with salsa music becoming as instinctive to him as breathing. Inspired by his musical upbringing, his formal dance journey began with a jazz aerobics class that sparked his decision to pursue professional training. He honed his craft at esteemed schools in Puerto Rico and New York City, including Broadway Dance Center, Steps and Eglevsky Ballet, where he received summer scholarships.
Since landing his first professional role in 1991, Jhesus has performed and choreographed for stars, concerts, TV shows, music videos, and commercials. His theater work spans the West End in the UK, Off-Broadway, and numerous regional productions in the U.S., Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. A sought-after educator and adjudicator, he has taught and performed in over 30 countries across nearly every continent, captivating audiences from Monaco to South Korea and from Morocco to Australia.
