Fernando Sosa, the director of Tropical Gem and one of the most well-known salsa dancers in the world, officially retired from the performance world today with a final performance at the Camana Club in Milan, Italy.
The performance, fittingly titled “The Last Dance”, paid homage to Fernando Sosa and his many decades of performing, featuring a nearly 11-minute long choreography with many of his pro dancers.
At one point, the dancing paused to show a highlight reel of Fernando’s career, with a montage of many of his iconic performances. There was also a section where Fernando Sosa danced alone with his long-time dance partner, Tatiana Bonaguro.
Sosa cited as his reason for retiring his desire to leave at his peak, rather than continuing to perform into old age (as of this writing, Fernando Sosa is 47-years old and his choreographies are known for being quite long and energetic).
Sosa will continue teach at his dance school in Milan as well as at salsa events around the world. He will also continue to promote his “Salsanama” 1v1 dance competiton and choreograph for the Tropical Gem dance team.
Fernando Sosa has been one of the most creative and dynamic salsa performers in the world for the past several decades, so this definitely marks the end of an era, but his legacy will live on in his dance team and the many incredible performers he has trained over the years.
