Biography
Founded in 1998 by Gabriel Romero, Mambo Romero is a pioneer of the on2, or mambo, style of salsa dancing in the Bay Area. The style of the company has been compared by many to New York style mambo, but Gabriel’s creative choreography has allowed the team to stand apart.
Although the company participated in competition in its earlier years, Mambo Romero has since taken on a more artistic approach to salsa dancing and performance. They offer a number of classes and workshops throughout the Bay Area, and also host several events including the popular weekly Mambo Night at El Valenciano in San Francisco.
The team is also known for organizing an annual trip to New York in August, consisting of workshops and classes with dance luminaries as well as other events.
Semi Pro
Mambo Romero's Semi-Pro team is made up of very experienced dancers and performers. Many of them have been with the team for several years and dance at a high level.
Student Group
The Student Group is Mambo Romero's student and training team. Practices consists of Latin dance fundamentals as well as fusion elements such as afro-cuban movement and jazz. The group also performs at Mambo Romero socials and other local events.
Mambo Girls
The Mambo Girls is Mambo Romero's ladies team. The group exemplifies the intricate styling and classic mambo steps the company has come to be known for.
