Our Review:
Located just a few blocks away from Willow Glen, Playa Bonita is nice little salsa spot to hit up on Friday nights. The event draws a good mix of South Bay salseros and locals who are just there to enjoy the music & drink.
The venue features a bar, a small dance floor, and plenty of seating. There is a free parking lot in the back, although it can get packed during peak hours. The restaurant was formerly called Creekside Bar & Grill and may still appear as such in your GPS, if you get lost.
The night starts off with salsa lessons by Grizzly Hidriago, a 3-time Salsa World Champion who travels all the way from LA to come teach at the event. This is one of the few opportunities to learn from the very best, and is not to be missed.
After the lesson is over, there is social dancing until 1:30am. Playa Bonita is one of the few places in the South Bay that features live salsa music, and the only place that has live music regularly, so it's a great place to go for live salsa if you don't want to drive all the way up to Cafe Cocomo. The event features a different band every week, so you get the chance to experience the music of different Bay Area musicians.
My only complaint is that the dance floor is tiny and a little sticky to boot. Once the floor gets packed, you will end up dancing on the concrete. Still, Playa Bonita is a nice salsa spot to hit up for its excellent salsa lessons and great live music.

Terrible place. The dance floor is horrible, it’s very warm, ceiling very low, super packed. I’m not even sure it makes all the security requirements.
