I have mixed feelings about this place…so I’ll give it 2.5 stars. The music is usually very good, the food is moderate to high in price. The dance area is small, concrete floor with filled in cracks, and the breeze from the bay is quite consistent. Overall, it’s a nice place to hang out on a weekend afternoon but it can get quite chilly at times. The dance crowd consists of mostly beginners, with a few intermediate dancers sprinkled here and there. Advanced dancers aren’t to be found here. This place isn’t for everyone…but I’ve seen much worse.

Vivane,
Their website does mention this is a 21 & over event.

This is not an all-ages place. Drove all the way there through crazy traffic before the tunnel and on the bridge, and the bouncer – not even looking at us in the eye – just motions for a card. When asked for explanation, he says “Yeah, after restaurant hours this place kind of becomes like a nightclub, with a cover charge and ID and everything.” This place closes at 8 pm. What kind of nightclub is that? Please advertise that you are 21+ only on your website, as well. Ridiculous.

I feel like this place has an unfairly low review. Go here if you like live music, and being able to see the water as you dance, and appreciate good ambience. Go here for fun.
Don’t go here if you are underage for drinking or a professional dancer who wants a great floor (it’s concrete and slightly sloped) and room to show off or to stare at yourself in a mirror. Don’t go here to learn or improve your dancing. :)
I personally don’t drink much, but met a few nice people here.

Starting 1/20/2012 The Ramp has a new enclosed heated tent with dance floor every Saturday and live bands. Adds a new festive classy air to the place. Not many people know yet since The Ramp is known for being open seasonly, so spread the word!

“New festive classy air “….you’re kidding right? There is nothing “classy ” about this place. It’s an overcrowded, overpriced dive for old people. Below average at best. It’s okay if you like to pay twice what you would for greasy deep fried food and burgers. Drinks are far from phenomenal. I can see a certain charm it may have if you get there early enough and want to be drunk by 4:00 in the afternoon. The cover charge is ridiculous. Save ur $ and go to a real club with real drinks. I do not mind spending $100 to go out to a club with good drinks but this was a waste.
Update: No more tent. Back to end of April to end of October schedule it seems.
Too bad they couldn’t keep things going :(
This place rocks! I’m sorry that underaged person gave it one star when denied access to the club. I felt I needed to put my two cents in. The dance area is awesome, outdoors in the sun and stars right on the water in SF Bay. Some serious salsa dancers come here when they have bands, usually Saturday and Sunday afternoon / evenings. Menu is average but tasty and plenty of drink options!
